Upgrading from StoreFront 2000 Standard to StoreFront 2000 Distributor Edition

Posted Saturday, April 24, 2004

StoreFront 2000 Distributor Edition incorporates Multi-Tier Pricing (MTP) functionality along with the normal functions of StoreFront 2000 Standard. The MTP addon allows you to create different volume pricing levels for different quantities of an item, for example: for 1 to 5, the cost is 6.95 each ; for 6 to 10, the cost is 5.95 each ; for 11 to 15, the price may be 4.95 each. This kind of multi-tier pricing is an excellent tool for encouraging customers to purchase in bulk.

Use these easy steps to upgrade from StoreFront 2000 Standard to StoreFront 2000 Distributor’s Edition.

  • Install the upgrade. If you downloaded the upgrade from www.storefront.net, simply double-click the executable to begin the installation. If you purchased the upgrade from a retail outlet, insert the StoreFront 2000 Distributor’s Edition disc into your CD-ROM to begin the installation. Ensure that all applications are closed when you begin the installation.

  • Upgrade the files in the web. Open FrontPage 2000, and use FrontPage to open the web you plan to upgrade by selecting File|Open|Web and entering the Url to the web. Once the web is open, select File|Import, and click Add File. Browse to C:\program files\microsoft office\templates\1033\webs\storefront.tem. Use the File Import utility of FrontPage to import the following files into the web, overwriting the existing copies. If you have any questions regarding the use of the FrontPage File Import utility, consult the FrontPage help files:
    In the root, overwrite:

            • addproduct.asp

            • neworder.asp

            • order.asp

  • Upgrade the database. Your new functionality requires some modifications to the Standard database. Obtain the MTP Upgrade script from StoreFront Support. Create a backup copy of your database, then view this file in a browser to upgrade the database to support the new functionality.

This will complete the upgrade process. When you next connect to your database using the StoreFront Product Manager, you will see additional options that will allow you to configure the volume pricing levels for each of your products.
