StoreFront users may encounter this error when trying to connect to a remote database using the StoreFront Client Tools, such as the Web Manager or Product Manager. The error seems to be caused by the absence of Client for Microsoft Networks on the machine where StoreFront is installed. Installing Client for Microsoft Networks will generally resolve the error. The following instructions describe how to do this:
Click on the Start menu and select Settings|Control Panel. Double-click the Network icon. If you are using Windows 2000, right-click on the active network/internet connection and select Properties.
You’ll see a list labelled “The following network components are installed” with an entry for your NIC or modem. In addition to these, you should see the icon for Client for MS Networks. If this is installed, but the error persists, please contact Storefront Support.
If Client for MS Networks is not installed, click Add and select Client. Select Client for Microsoft Networks and click OK.
The computer may request that you insert your Windows 95/98/NT/2000 disk in order to install the necessary drivers. Reboot after the installation and test the StoreFront client tools again.
