80004005 as a result of incorrect IIS application settings

Posted Friday, April 23, 2004

StoreFront users may sometimes encounter the following error in their web stores:

[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified
SFLib/db.conn.open.asp, line 33

In addition to the other possible causes of the 80004005 error (see the troubleshooting guide for 80004005 errors in this Knowledge Base), this error may sometimes occur if the site or subweb containing a StoreFront web store has not been configured to run as an IIS application. The problem can be resolved by following the instructions below:

  1. Open the Internet Services Manager on the server where the site is hosted. The Internet Services Manager can be found under Control Panel|Administrative Tools.

  2. Expand the list of IIS sites and directories. Right-click on the site or directory where the web store is located, then select Properties.

  3. Click on the Directory tab. If the Application Name field under Application Settings is grayed out, click the Create button to the right of this field and set the execute permissions to allow the execution of scripts.

  4. Close the Internet Services Manager and test your site again. If the problem persists, email StoreFront Support.
